Tip of the Day - 4-19-2013

Dental Tip of the Day:

Recently I went to the Dentist after having not gone in over 4 years.  Now I know you’re going to ask, if you haven’t been to the dentist in four years, how are you giving me any tips?  Apparently for being away from the dentist that long my teeth were in really good shape.  Not the best shape they could have been in…I don’t want you thinking I’m advocating not going to the dentist because not going is WRONG!!!!

I think my teeth are in good shape due to one thing I read many years ago and have followed ever since.  Do not eat or drink anything for at least 20 minutes after brushing your teeth.  Yes, that’s it!  That is probably the only thing I’ve followed that I’m supposed to do and it kept my teeth in good enough shape to not rot out of my mouth!  But, here is the actual tip:  It can be hard to wait after brushing your teeth to eat or drink something.  I remember I used to brush my teeth after getting ready in the morning, it being the last thing that I did before putting my clothes on.  Sometimes it was the last thing I did before running out the door and believe it or not, sometimes I would run out the door, be close to work or at work and remember that I hadn’t brushed my teeth at all.

Or, you get to work and you’re starving and you want to eat.  Maybe you grab something running out the door to eat on your way to work.  Or even more classic, that cup of coffee on your way to work.  Here’s the solution:  Brush your teeth before you get into the shower.  Most showers take 10 to 20 minutes.  Give or take another 5 to 10 minutes to get dried off, put on lotion, deodorant, powder, etc and put on your clothes.  There is your 20 minutes plus!  Actually, the longer the better.  It gives you time for the fluoride in your toothpaste to work on your teeth.

If you are finding yourself hungry before the 20 mins are up – If you forget to brush before you shower or you are a person who showers the night before, sip on some water instead of eating right away.  Water with Calcium and/or Fluoride is the best.

Again, I do not want to advocate not going to the dentist.  I didn’t go for so many years because I had a really bad experience and I was shell shocked.  I finally found a dentist that I was comfortable with and will continue to go back on a regular basis!

Most Embarrassing Moment

Over the past few weeks I have been going through my clothes.  I have clothes in my closet I haven't worn for a long time as well as some clothes stored away that I just never got back out.  While I was going through some of these clothes I found a shirt that I hadn't worn in quite a long time.  It's a short sleeved shirt, very light and airy.  When I picked it up I thought this would be great to wear now, this was 2 weeks ago, because its so hot during the day.  So I tossed it in the laundry to have cleaned to wear for the next work day.

I got ready for work, put on the shirt.  The shirt was feeling just a smidge too snug but nothing crazy.  I thought it was just because I had taken it straight from the dryer and put it on.  I went ahead and wore it to work anyway.  I was a little self conscious about it because it was a little snug but I still didn't think anything major about it.  Kind of like the thought in the way back of your mind.

So, around lunch time I get up from my desk and walk down the hallway towards the coffee room and restrooms.  There had to be several people in the hall.  3 that I remember for sure.  One guy smiled at me and said hi but looked a little crazy.  A lady said hi to me but had this crazy look on her face.  So I walk straight into the bathroom and my shirt was unbuttoned!  Not the top button or the second from the top button but the button directly in the middle of my shirt!  My bra was showing as big as the day!  I couldn't be mortified because not one person said anything to me.  I was hoping that no one saw it but I'm sure they did.  Two crazy faces at the same time!  But because no one said anything I just act like it never happened!

Realization

I was reading some of my posts and realized I didn't finish my Staycation.  Oh well, as you can probably guess nothing super exciting happened.  Friday I stayed home, didn't do anything.  I think I was so tired from the day before that I just lazed around all day.  Oh well, isn't that what vacations are for!

Staycation -Day 3

Thursday, Day 3 - I got up this morning with a specific goal in mind. I got a membership to Sam's Club through work, back in April, that I had never used. So my goal for this day was to go to Sam's Club. We, my Mom and I, hadn't done our grocery shopping for the month. We wanted to see what Sam's had before we went to the regular store. By the time we both got up, I got Brandy outside, and we fixed and ate breakfast and got ready it was close to 2:30.  I didn't sleep well the night before and Brandy woke me up early again so I did lay down and took about an hour nap. So all the time wasn't just getting ready.

I headed over to Hilliard. I took the back way. The older I get the more and more I dislike the highway, especially in town, because the traffic is always horrendous and because the older I get the less patience I have for stupid people. I also like taking the back way to see if anything new is going on around the area I live.  We get to Hilliard. Easy peasy! No problems at all with traffic. It took me less time than if I had went the highway. We get to Sam's Club and go in.

I haven't been to SC in many years. It was when it was still attached to Wal-Mart. Even though it was a nice store then I wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it was. We had to get our IDs first. I hate getting my picture taken. Pictures like that never turn out nice for me. One time only did my drivers license turn out. I didn't plan it and didn't get a chance to spruce up beforehand. I went on straight from work. Another time I did plan it. Took the to e to do my hair, my makeup and I looked crazy. The lady at the bureau literally pulled the picture stand, for lack of a better word, straight up in the camera. Then she made me sit down, told me to lift my chin up and snapped the picture. I was so mad. I had a half smile on my face and the picture made my head look big! So, both my mom and I got a card and we went shopping.

We were in that store over two hours. I was getting tired and grumpy. My mom is the type of person that stops, looks and touches everything with no intent to buy. I absolutely hate that! If you are absolutely not going to buy something why even bother to look at it. If your intention is to look at it because you might buy it in some future timeframe that is one thing. Finally I did have to say something to her to step it up because we hadn't gotten to the groceries yet.

I found my prized smoked Gouda cheese! In regular non ethnic stores it is hard to find. In stores like Whole Foods it is usually expensive. If what I bought doesn't last me awhile I'm going to have som serious bathroom issues! lol

I bought a few other miscellaneous items, a few groceries and a few personal items. We came home and unloaded the car, took care of Brandy and relaxed a couple of  hours. I cooked dinner and we watched TV the rest of the night. I think, I'm writing this entry two days later so some things are kind of fuzzy, I went to bed really late, like 1:30/2:00. I just remember being super tired Friday morning.

Staycation - Day 2

Wednesday was my second day off from work. B-Girl let me sleep in until 8. I was so happy and thankful! I got up with her and took her out by 8:15. I came back in and loaded up the dishwasher and threw in a load of laundry. Oh and I watered the plant. I was feeling more wide awake and very domestic. I even made breakfast for my mom and I.

I had to call into work to collaborate with my newly assigned team for a team building we are having. It's in the tradition of the show called "Shark Tank." We, my team and I, have to come up with an item and it's financials to present to the "Sharks," the sharks are selected members for a panel to judge us. It's just for fun but we were told that whomever wins gets some fabulous prizes!

After the call I got cleaned up. I finished knitting a scarf I had started a few days earlier and had lunch. In between time I just watched shows I had recorded on the DVR.  A little later my Mom had asked me if I could run her over to Joann's.  I was feeling a little couped up and did want to get out of the house.  I hate going to regular stores like Wal-Mart and Meijers just to look around. I don't like shopping just for the sake of shopping and I really don't like malls. Not liking malls is more about the people than the shopping but I would just rather stay at home.

I took my mom to Joanns. She wanted to see if they had anymore of the Red Heart collegiate color yarns there. Well I guess they are also colors for professional teams too. They did have the yarn there but they did not have the Red and Gray like she was looking for. We looked around. I found some collegiate colors in some ribbon yarn so I bought it. We ran into Laura, a former colleague I worked with when I used to work ay Joann's, she suggested that we order the yarn from RH, so we did. We ended up being there for some time.  While my mom was waiting on Laura I looked at mags and found the newest edition of "Where Women Create." I recommend all you creative ladies out there to grab a copy sometime if you've never read it before. I get a lot of inspiration from it. I love reading about other women making a business out of their Art or Hobbies. Our world needs more creatives in it.

On our way home we stopped by KFC on Sullivant Ave. it's my favorite because they always have great green beans, they are very flavorful, and the have the potato wedges. Trust me that all KFCs are not the same. The only thing I don't like is that they are out of their grilled chicken a lot of times so I don't go all the time.

We came home and ate and watched TV and talked the rest of the night. My friend Susi called and we chatted for some time. I think I went to bed around midnight.

Staycation - Day 1

I took a few days off of work to get some things done at home and to work on Crazy Craft N Ladies business. As luck would have it Day 1 I was ill.  This always happens to me whenever I take more than a day off I get sick. Maybe I am working to much and my body is telling me something or maybe I am letting myself get too stressed out with work and life. I don't know but I need to figure it out!

Back to day 1:

Brandy, my dog woke me up in the wee hours of the morning. It took me at least an hour to talk her into go laying down somewhere and going back to bed. I know, you ask "why didn't you just take her out? Wouldn't that have been easier?"  Yes in normal circumstances, it would have been much easier. In my younger days and in my dog's younger days I did. Now I won't take her out unless it is an emergency at that time of day. My neighborhood has gotten worse in the years I have lived here. There was a shooting across the street that I was almost a witness to. A murder happened across the street and a house got shot up in my same neighborhood years back. The house shoot up was rumored to be a gang issue and there are rumored drug dealers in the area. So I don't feel comfortable going outside during hours when most people are sleeping and that is only for security reasons.

Now that I have told at least a 13 year history of where I live......

Yesterday I found my Lord of The Rings book. It was at the bottom of a huge pile of books that I have.  The size of the book caught my attention so I pulled it out.  I had wanted to read LOTR as one of my major books of the year. It is also a book that my Mom and I were going to read together. So I brought it into the living room and I laid it on the couch where I normally sit. I found throughout the day that I kept moving it around on the couch to get it out of the way. At some point last night I moved it to the floor then my dog decided she wanted to lay down right next to me and sha laid on top of it. So I moved it for the last time to the love seat and I haven't picked it back up yet to read.

Throuhout the day I had to take Brandy out many times. She was whinier than usual. Maybe she didn't know what to do since I was home. My Mom said that normally she only has to take her out once while I'm at work. I take her out before I go to work and at least an hour after I'm home for the day if not as soon as I get home. So with my obnoxious headache and upset stomach I struggled to take her out many times.  I managed to make breakfast for both my Mom and I. Mom also was down with a headache. We both suffer from headaches due to weather change. Her headaches are much worse than mine and have even been diagnosed as cluster headaches. Apparently they can be inherited. So far I am still functioning when I get a headache. Usually with a little medicine and rest I get better pretty quickly. My Mom can be sick for several days.  Anyway, after my medical history lesson!....

I caught up on a lot of my DVR'd shows, The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles, and some HGTV shows.  I knitted a little bit. Did a load of laundry and fixed myself lunch at around 5 o'clock. Whenever I don't work my meal schedule is off.  I think I just watched more TV and that's when my stomach issues escalated. So I did not eat dinner and went to bed early. When I'm off work I normally stay up late. It is very unusual for me to go to bed before midnight but I stay up anywhere from 1 in the morning until anywhere to 3 in the morning.  I'm a better night owl than early bird but I can be both. My thing is the midday nap. Naps can do wonders!

Stay tuned tomorrow for today's stay action happenings!
