Holly Fest - Hilliard, OH

Holly Fest was awesome! The ladies that came around to check on us from the Hilliard Chamber of Commerce were so nice. I have never been part of a craft show where the people that set it up were so helpful in making sure you had everything you needed. There were students to help us unload and to load at the end of the show if we needed it. There were people to go and get you breakfast and lunch. It was just a nice homey feeling.

Now, let's get to the sales! This is also the best craft show my Mom and I have done as far as sales. There were tons of people even though there was a snow storm during the show. I could tell there weren't as many shoppers as years past as I have attended Holly Fest as a shopper several times before. Personally, we didn't do as well as I thought we would have but we did still do very well.

I was very excited that we were accepted this year and hope that we will get accepted in the years to come as we plan on applying! I give this craft show 2 thumbs up!

My AA Meetings

Today I decided that I would rename the Team Etsy Columbus meetings as AA meetings. I know you probably think I'm crazy but I have to share my reasons. Everytime that I have told someone that I can't come to a knit night or go out or even just hang out, they look at me crazy. I say, I have a meeting. People look at me like "what kind of a meeting do you have? and why so secretive?" Not that I'm being secretive, it's just hard to sit and explain where I'm going to people that don't craft or could care less about creativity. I know they probably think that I'm in a 12 step program and so be it because maybe I should be in one! LOL So the AA no longer stands for Alcoholics Anonymous, it Now stands for ARTISTS Anonymous!

I could not write in my blog today without mentioning

That Barack Obama won the race for President! I am so happy and proud. Not just because President Elect Obama is a black man, but because he is an eloquent black man that strives for more than just being ordinary. I believe he will make a difference in office and will be the best President that this country has ever seen.

For all you doubters, he will prove you wrong, that I have faith in.

For all of you that didn't vote for him just because of the color of his skin, shame on you. If you are that ignorant maybe you don't deserve to have the right to vote.

New Things to Say

You know, I think about blogging everyday. I've even attempted to keep a physical journal and when it comes time to write my wandering mind down, I can't think of a word to say. So tonight I just thought I would write.........................anything!

So..........random thoughts...............What about that Hurricane that blew through town....Okay, i totally missed the whole thing. I was at work, one of my part-timers............I heard a little bit of wind blowing. The lights flickered a lot....Customers came in telling me that lights were out from Sawmill road all the way to Cemetery road. People were buying out our candles because we don't sell flashlights.................Hmmmm, I still didn't know how bad it was.......I leave work, around 7:30ish. It was a little windy, but no big deal. I hear on the radio how trees were being pulled up out of the ground by the wind. I prayed all the way home that my two littlest trees were okay...........A crab apple tree and a pear (ornamental) tree. I get home. All was okay, even my little teeny tiny oak tree that I'm growing from seed. I was happy, then I look at my yard. Shingles everywhere. I don't know why it shocked me so much. I guess if I had actually seen the storm it wouldn't have phased me a bit.............I'm just glad that everyone that I care about came through it okay. I did pray for the families that lost loved ones from falling trees. That is just so sad, it doesn't seem like something like that could even happen.....

I'm hoping to do better with posting. I just need to write down some of the craziest thoughts I have! Hey, What about those Buckeyes!

How are You GREEN!

No, I'm not a frog, but I thought I would see what people are doing out there to be "green". In my crafting I try to use what I have and not waste. I know sometimes it is hard but I don't like to waste anything, hence the clutter!

What I do in my at home life to be green is I recycle everything that I can. I have yard sales to try and get rid of what I can to make a very small "profit". What I do not sell I give to charity. I hardly ever throw anything that can be used by someone else away.

I recycle paper products, bottles, jars and cans. If you live in Franklin County Ohio, Most of the Kroger stores have recycle bins, Wal-Mart is now starting to have them and a lot of churches. You can also call up the Humane Society and the Alumn Creek Animal Shelter to donate used newspapers. This will hopefully also prolong the life of one more animal if they do not have to spend extra money on supplies.

I have started to purchase Method products. I have a ton of other products I have bought over time and since I don't like to waste, I would like to use them up first. I have a feeling that throwing them out or pouring them down the drain doesn't help the eco system either.

I make jewelry and crochet and knit. If anyone has any information on how to be greener doing these crafts, I would love to hear about it!

Let me know how all of you are being green!

On-Line Friends

If you have an account on Goodreads or Ravelry and want to add me as a friend just shoot me a note. The more friends the merrier!

Test Today

Today I had to take a Civil Service Test for Southwestern City Schools. I'm not really sure how I feel about the test. I thought it was hard but I think it was because I wasn't as prepared as I should have been. The only information given to the people taking the test was that there was basic accounting, basic math and you had to be able to type 30 words a minute. Well there was no typing test and I felt that the basic accounting was actual technical accounting. I worked in the Accounts Payable department for a very affluent company for two years and some of that stuff I have never heard of. I'm thinking that my training at that particular company was very vague!

Oh well, I hope I at least passed the test. I might have to retake it again if I hope to work for the school district. Looks like I might be heading to Manpower after all.

5 weeks with the Senior Crafty Lady

My Grandmother, who now resides in Kent, was visiting. She stayed with me for a little over a month and then we (my Mom and I) went home with her to visit other family members. During her stay, we managed to hit every yarn shop in Columbus as well as bead shops and every commercial craft store in Columbus, and go to the Arts Festival, Knitter's Connection and the Creekside Festival. It was a whirlwind of a month, basically, how I envision ever summer should be! I really enjoyed myself and I know that she and my Mom have also. The past week my Mom and I have been recuperating from all the running's around!

I never knew how much crafting takes out of you!

I thought I had posted something about....

trying to get into Comfest. I skimmed through my posts and didn't see anything so I'm goign to post it's own documentation.....

ComFest is Columbus, Ohio's Community Festival. It is held every year at the end of June, usually Thursday through Sunday of the last weekend. The stories I have heard from other crafters is that if you get into Comfest you will sell everything! :-)

Well this year, apparently, our application, check and pictures were lost. I'm almost thinking this is an Omen of some sort. Last year we applied for Comfest and got a letter back almost within the same week we sent it in that we didn't get in. This year We (meaning Crazy Craft n' Ladies, 21st Century Quilts and Curious Good and my friend Kristie) hadn't heard anything so we were thinking that maybe, just maybe, we got in and they hadn't sent the acceptance letters yet.

Oh well, I think it worked out for the best. I need time to make more items, I'm still looking for a full-time, permanent, job and my Grandma is also down visiting so I am wanting to spend time with her. I am hoping this gives us the chance to look into other craft shows this year.

Sex and The City

A must see movie! It took my breath away. The best words I can put into this movie is that it is the Ultimate Girlfriends movie. All friends should have relationships that Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha have! Two thumbs up, definitely!

Moved my Craft Table

I bought a 4 foot table to use in order to work on my beaded jewelry. I pretty much knew I didn't have any room in my craft room..........My computer, a bookcase, another computer desk that is twice as long as the one I am using, a smill dinnette table, a desk and a file cabinet are all in this very small room. That is not including all that actual craft supplies and finished products. The small bedroom is probably about the size of what a walk-in closet should be.

The dinette table came out of my dining room area. The dining room area was just a small section of the Great Room. Both sides of the dinette table fold down so yes, it is taking up room in my craft room, but it really isn't all that large. The dinette table was not large enough to hold all my beads and allow me room to work.

So...............

Sunday I moved all my beads and jewelry making supplies from my craft room to the new table that I put in the Dining room area. I am hoping that this will give me more incentive to work. Not to mention, that area just happens to be the Creative Sector of my home according to Feng Shui! I really need all the help that I can get.

Buca Di Beppo

Yesterday late afternoon I went to Buca's with my friends Ashley and Sarah. It was our dinner to end the year with Big Brother Big Sisters.

I was in the school program that started when I was working at Nationwide insurance. The program started last October and the last session was last Wednesday. It was sad for me because since I no longer work at Nationwide, I don't know that I could continue with the program. (I can continue with the program via Big Brother's Big Sisters as long as whoever my new employer is going to be, will allow for me to do it.)

I do want to keep in touch with my little and I had recieved information from the program leader in order to do that. Now I am going to my little's 8th grade graduation on June 4th and we are going to discuss it more. I hope everything works out!

Finally on ETSY!

Finally! I posted some jewelry on ETSY. It has taken long enough. I took pictures of eight different pieces (sets) of jewelry and it took me about 2 hours to post them on the website. I had taken the pictures weeks ago but they didn't look good to me. I had been playing around with some different "photo shops" but nothing seemed to work when I tried to save it on the site. Finally I logged into Picassa, and Wahlah! I was able to enhance the pictures so that they actually looked nice. I am going to post more at a later date, but I thought I needed to get something up there soon!

If you get a chance, go out and look. www.crazycraftnladies.etsy.com. Also, just browse around Etsy, www.etsy.com. It is a website for all handmade items. It is very nice!

Good night!

What am I up to?

I've been playing on my computer since last night. Yes, I did sleep, not very successfully, but I did get a wink or two in. I'm trying to plan out my future as to what I am going to do with the rest of my life. Or at least the next 10 years or so.

I recently was laid off from my job working at Nationwide Insurance.....just a side note here....No job is safe...always be looking and try to be ready. This is my third layoff and I still wasn't prepared. This time though, instead of being completely devastated that I lost my job, I am fairly Happy! I liked my job for most of the people I worked with. I even liked the work I did, but there were always obstacles that other "busy bodied" people got involved with and it was almost a relief that I was laid off.

I think God wants me to do something more creative with my life and hopefully less stressful. My goals are to successfully have a work from home business. I have also always wanted to work for the Ohio State University (my alma mater). OSU is still in the works but right now, since that hasn't happened, I'm focusing on my creative skills and work from home abilities.

I am setting up a shop on ETSY. My site is created but I have not listed any products. I will keep everyone informed on when I do. Please go to the site and look around. www.etsy.com. You can do searches by areas, such as Columbus, OH. You can do searches by type, color, if you are looking for products that are specifically made for children, etc....You will be surprised and very happy to find that there are a lot of artisans from Columbus, OH listed on there with very beautiful products!

Stay tuned!

Hello!

I thought I would write a quick word here..........I had a very large post typed and ready and somehow lost it. I really don't remember what I wrote (it was a little while ago, but I just realized last night that it didn't post) so I won't try to remember.

I have my computer up and running. I am very happy with my service and with the speed of my new computer. I am thinking you are going to see me on here a lot. Please feel free to post anytime.
